Electricity Report by the National Bureau of Statistics: Q2 2024

A recent publication by the National Bureau of Statistics revealed the following key insights on electricity distribution in Nigeria:

Revenue Collection:

  • Revenue collected by Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) during Q2 2024 was N391.72 billion, up from N291.62 billion in Q1 2024.
  • Year-on-year, the revenue increased by 48.90% from N263.08 billion in Q2 2023.

Electricity Supply:

  • Electricity supply in Q2 2024 was 5,612.52 GWh, down from 5,769.52 GWh in the previous quarter.
  • On a year-on-year basis, supply decreased by 5.03% compared to 5,909.83 GWh in Q2 2023.

Customer Numbers:

  • Total customers in Q2 2024 were 12.99 million, up 5.35% from 12.33 million in Q1 2024.
  • Year-on-year, customer numbers increased by 13.24% from 11.47 million in Q2 2023.

Metered Customers:

  • Metered customers in Q2 2024 were 5.92 million, a slight growth of 0.25% from 5.91 million in Q1 2024.
  • Year-on-year, this grew by 8.18% from 5.47 million in Q2 2023.

Estimated Customers:

  • Estimated customers during Q2 2024 were 7.07 million, up 10.04% from 6.43 million in Q1 2024.
  • Year-on-year, estimated customers increased by 17.86% from 6.00 million in Q2 2023.
