NGX ASI rebounds with 1.13% growth WtD, investors gain N985bn

The Nigerian stock market rebounded last week after four consecutive sessions of losses, posting a ₦985 billion gain on the back of price growth in 70 equities.

The All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 1.13%, closing at 140,545.69 points, compared to 138,980.01 points in the previous week. Similarly, market capitalization rose by 1.12% to settle at ₦88.922 trillion, up from ₦87.937 trillion. Year-to-date (YTD), the market has now returned 36.55%.

Trading activity improved as investors exchanged 3.188 billion shares worth ₦99.698 billion in 132,871 deals, against 3.117 billion shares valued at ₦90.195 billion in 117,791 deals recorded the previous week.

Market breadth was positive, with 70 equities appreciating in price, compared to 19 in the prior week. Conversely, 22 equities declined, down from 64 in the previous week, while 55 closed flat, slightly below the 64 recorded earlier.

With the exception of the NGX ASeM Index, which closed flat, all other indices ended the week higher. The sectoral performance was as follows:

  • NGX AFR Div. Yield Index: +2.24%
  • NGX MERI Value Index: +3.65%
  • NGX Growth Index: +1.54%
  • NGX Commodity Index: +2.73%

Top 10 Gainers

  • ETRANZACT led the chart, gaining 45.15% to close at ₦14.95 from ₦10.30.
  • Other notable gainers included Regency Alliance (+27.69%), Chellaram (+26.67%), DAAR Communication (+23.26%), and Royal Exchange (+22.34%).
  • Additional top performers were University Press (+19.80%), NCR (+19.69%), AIICO Insurance (+19.48%), CHAMS (+16.07%), and UPDC (+13.33%).

Top 10 Losers

  • Union Dicon led the decliners, shedding 18.33% to close at ₦9.80 from ₦12.00.
  • Other major losers were Thomas Wyatt (-16.33%), Secure Electronic Technology (-10.42%), Enamelware (-10.00%), and May & Baker (-9.97%).
  • Additional laggards included NEM Insurance (-9.94%), Eterna Oil (-9.36%), Academy Press (-7.33%), Transcorp (-7.24%), and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-6.62%).
